March 19, 2026, we lost an amazing man.
I did not personally know him. I only got to meet him once, when I was a young girl.
I told him I wanted to learn martial arts so I could hurt my bullies back.
He took me aside and said,
“Young lady, I understand your pain… but martial arts isn’t used to hurt. It’s used to defend and protect.”
His hand was warm. His smile was kind… and I just cried.
He sat me down, got me a glass of water, and said,
“You’re a strong young lady—I can tell. I think your strength will come one day.”
After that, he had to leave.
But his words stayed with me all these years.
Thank you, Mr. Norris.
You were the only other man I ever placed in the same group as my grandfather.
To me, you were both heroes in your own way.
My grandfather was raised during the Great Depression.
He had old-school beliefs. He believed a man was only as good as his word.
That hard work would reward you with a stable and happy family.
You were like an unbreakable rock.
You laughed with heart.
You stood up for your beliefs.
But most of all… you believed in honor, values, and truth.
I never learned martial arts.
But I never forgot your words.
So…
bows deeply and holds it for a moment…
Thank you, Mr. Norris.
May your family carry on in heart, honor, and love.
